Reader Reviews Five Star Customer Review/Amazon.com A Compelling Voice, by B. Rideout (Collegeville, PA) This book of meditation instruction is beyond expectations. With each encounter I feel that I'm in a live session--a coaching, a training. Carol McMahon says "I will speak directly to you." I hear this in her simple, piercing questions, which uncover our inward behavior, and in her inviting people-stories. Office visits to "providers" usually fall short of my hopes of productive interaction. Conversation time is over before the practitioner learns enough to know where I'm coming from. This author seems to sense where we're coming from--to notice vital experience. Reading STRAIGHT LINE MEDITATION may be a better "conversation" with a helping professional than many in-person appointments would provide. Five Star Customer Review/Amazon.com Straight Line Meditation a Must Read, by Joseph M. Tessmer (Fairfax, VA) The reason that I rated Straight Line Meditation: How to Restore awareness and Why You Need To with 5 stars is that I could not give it 6 stars. Dr. Carol McMahon brings decades of professional and personal experience to this challenging project. She intelligently interweaves her personal experiences and her professional insight to guide the reader thru her improved method of meditation. Combining her psychological insight with the wisdom of Master Deac Cataldo’s martial tradition is serendipitous. Dr. McMahon’s book is a must read for anyone interested in meditation and the inherent benefits of health, relaxation, and insight that accompany it.
Five Star Customer Review/Amazon.com Help for Meditators, by Rajeev Parikh (United Arab Emirates)
I've been a meditator for 30 years. Often my meditation session is ineffective because my mind wanders. This book introduces, for the first time, an efficient way to focus my attention so as to help me with my meditation. I cannot recommend this feedback technique more highly. If you are a meditator, you know the benefits of meditation and the problems with focusing yo ur attention. Once you've used Dr. McMahon's method, you'll be amazed at how much easier it is to meditate. Five Star Customer Review/Amazon.com New Meditation Technique, by Mary K Mogavero "MK" (NY USA) I was interested in this book because it suggests a way to meditate that allows feedback. In any other activity feedback speeds improvement in skill and makes it easier to see progress. This author's method does that for meditation, an activity that can be hard to get a grip on. The author also gives short self tests to help the reader measure success toward the goal of "Awareness". The hero of the book is the Karate Master whose life experiences from the Korean War to the present show the path he followed, guided by his own teacher. The author describes many personal experiences in motivating the reader. A vast collection of quotes and illustrations from literature are also used to give the topic historical and philosophical depth. The result is a well researched and inspirational book. If a person is unsure what the goal of meditation should be, this book will make it clear and attainable. | Five Star Customer Review/Amazon.com Straight-line how-to, by 'Sail Nor-Cal' (San Jose, CA) Crystal clear Zen in a how-to manual, a super user-friendly book. Peppered with faith-building stories, positive take-aways and a healthy perspective on pain as guidance. It's an engaging read too. |
